Despite the fact that we are adults, we get to go on school
field trips occasionally. Naturally,
these “trips” are for the purpose of forcing us to talk with people and gather
cultural information. One of our
fieldtrips was to minister at a Latin America Childcare school here in San
Jose. We spent the morning making
balloons, playing games, singing, teaching a craft and presenting the story of
Zaqueo (Zaccheus) to two classes of fourth graders—completely in Spanish. We had fun interacting with the kids for the
day. It was the first time since being
here in Costa Rica that I have had the opportunity to do something like
that. That fieldtrip served as a
reminder to me of why I am studying Spanish…so that HIS message can spread
further.
